ADRA Op Shop Garfield

ADRA Op Shop's New HomeThe ADRA Op Shop has relocated from Bunyip, where it had been a beloved community fixture since September 2022. Mary Meyer, who has been diligently managing the centre as a volunteer, continues her dedicated service in our new location. The ADRA Op Shop now occupies a portion of the Scout Hall, offering a wide array of second-hand goods to support community initiatives. ADRA is committed to fostering a collaborative spirit and is working in harmony with our local Op Shop; Garfield Community Shop, ensuring that both organisations can better serve our community. We will share more details about this partnership as they become available.Community Support and Social InclusionADRA's presence is a boon for our community, particularly through their support of our food relief program, which is available to anyone in need. Rebecca Auriant, ADRA Director, emphasised the importance of these efforts, stating, "Its purpose is to raise funds for people in need in the local community. The partnership with Moy-Yan will add value through their food program, the Garfield Artists Club, and various programs that aim to provide social inclusion."This partnership marks a new chapter for our Scout Hall, transforming it into a vibrant hub of community support and engagement. We look forward to sharing more updates as these exciting developments unfold.Stay tuned for further news and join us in welcoming ADRA Op Shop and Moy-Yan Neighbourhood House to our Scout Hall!

Garfield Community Shop

Garfield Community ShopThe Garfield Community Shop is a voluntarily run shop selling second hand goods at reasonable prices. Our shop is like your old-fashioned Op Shop packed full of great bargains. We stock clothing, shoes, books, bric-a-brac, small electrical goods and furniture. All profits raised by this shop are fed directly back into the local community.New volunteers are always welcome. The Garfield Community Shop opened its doors in December 2012 and since then has been raising money to support the local community by providing goods for purchase at a low cost to customers. This small not-for-profit shop, run solely by volunteers, has been able to contribute a total of nearly $340,000 in it’s 10 years of operation. This has been in the form of grants and joint funding of projects such as the exercise and playground equipment situated at the Garfield Recreation Reserve.Nowadays people seem to be more aware of where and what they are spending their money on and realize the benefits of buying secondhand goods. Not only does this practice help their money go further, but it also helps the local community and lessens the impact on the environment.Community Shops not only provide items for sale at greatly reduced costs, they serve as a social avenue for not just the volunteers, but also the customers. Many locals pop in regularly for a chat, as well as regulars from further afar who enjoy the friendly atmosphere provided by the volunteers.
